Kaikoura and Dusky Dolphins

Cool and slightly misty start to the day, with calm seas, we set of into the pacific ocean in search of dusky dolphins.

It was roughly a 45 minute ride south until we caught up with some, it turned out to be a pod of roughly 250 wild dolphins. Once we were caught up, they started playing in the boats wake. Then we slowed down and jumped in. (not the clearest image but you can see how many there are).

Rather than upload a load of screen grabs of slightly blurry dolphins or put on endless videos of our time in the water here is a small clip, there speed and numbers are impressive. I swam off on my own and seemed to get a good group around me.

On the way back with hot chocolate and some biscuits the dolphins enjoyed more playing by the bow and jumping out of the water.
