A brief trip to the Oamaru farmers market for a coffee and a bacon butty, then the road trip continues down to the Moeraki Boulders.
These miniature death stars (or giant spherical boulders) appear on the beach as the coast line is eroded. We were unlucky with the tide times and it was only a short time after high tide. The boulders range in size from relatively small to over 2 meters across.
Whats interesting is as they are battered by the sea the natural faults in them give. Eventually splitting apart they show a crystalline structure at the heart of the boulder.
