Lake Tekapo & the Milky Way

A random night away, work ran over so it was all a bit of a rush. A saturday afternoon dash up to Lake Tekapo in the trusty tank, set up a tent and then went for a random stroll…..which being me deviated off the path and up a steep and rather big hill 😉

View from the top was pretty cool! Showed off the lake and the town.

By pure coincidence there happened to be an event on at the conway observatory. (the mackenzie district is a 4300 sq km dark sky reserve and one of the best viewing spots on earth) so we went along at it was really well done! shuttle up to the observatory, then to large creators carved out of the hill top and about 5 rather large telescopes set up as well as the observatory. Really relaxed, stroll around at your leisure and be shown and told about what you are looking at through the telescopes. Saw Saturn and its rings, distant galaxies and nebulas.
